Monument to Vysotsky
The musical monument to the great poet, singer and actor Vladimir Vysotsky is one of the newest point of interest in Vladivostok. It was installed in summer 2013 in a park in front of Gorky Theater, near the Academy of Arts.
The idea of creating a peculiar monument was matured by the city administration for few years during which sketches of different sculptors were developed and selected. As a result project of young local artist, Peter Chegodaev was chosen and it became his first major work. He succeeded in imaging the great artist and as commonly recognized the monument corresponds to the character of Vysotsky’s work.
According to the author of the monument, he tried to portray Vladimir Vysotsky as close to the reality as possible, to what he was in real life. That is why the sculpture of the singer was not installed over the pedestal and therefore lacks the monumentality and pretentiousness. He's very simple and easy as was Vysotsky himself.
The poet is sitting with guitar on the stairs, where lyrics of his songs and verses were written. The most important one - “It’s opened the closed port Vladivostok” - is made of metal letters attached to granite. Other famous and loved by all phrases are engraved in granite.
The monument to Vysotsky is unique in its kind. Today it is the only musical monument commemorating the Russian singer in the whole country. Next to it musical instruments playing songs Vysotsky were set. Therefore, the best quality songs were chosen form over a thousand of the legendary singer.
